Abstract :
A number of alternatives for calculating short-circuit duties have been put forward, but the setting of a single universally accepted internation standard has never been achieved. All the standard methodologies were, for good reasons, based on various simplifying assumptions, chosen to give conservative designs, and also on the use of empirical factors needed to reflect the effects of system voltages, circuit X/R ratios, proximity of generation, etc. Advances in computer technology have made it possible to produce short-circuit analysis programs with more rigorous dynamic solutions. The differences between the static and dynamic classes of analysis are examined by comparing results for a specific industrial power system
