Abstract :
Multimedia content over broadband wireless technology has always been a challenge in video communication, as wireless networks are inevitably prone to error burst. In this work, we present an approach in data partition technique to achieve error resilience in Multiview Video Coding (MVC). Data partitioning (DP) is an efficient and important way to make an encoded video stream more robust to errors by way of separating more important and less important syntax elements into a different format of packets, based on decoding importance, thereby enhancing improvement of error/loss robustness. As JMVC 8.5 reference software does not support data partitioning or any other error resilience technique for either base or non-base view slices, the proposed technique implemented introduces new non base view Network Abstraction Layer (NAL) units into the multiview video (MVV) bitstream. This concept helps to differentiate the data partitions of base view slices from non-base view slices. DP algorithm was developed to sort the individual video data into different partitions, namely, A, B, and C based on importance. The overall bitrate increase was found to be 0.7% and this overhead did not affect the overall quality of the video. The JMVC 8.5 reference software decoder on the other hand was modified to handle and decode the partitioned MVV bitstream. The technique presented can decode and reconstruct all frames in the MVV bitstream with minimum bitrate and exact quality as the original sequences.
