Abstract :
A process for identifying specific opportunities for a utility´s implementation of microgrids is presented in the form of a process performed at an investor-owned electrical power utility in the Intermountain West. The paper provides the conditions, criteria, and constraints by which the study was conducted, it identifies specific scenarios and locations within the service territory by way of general conditions of viability, it addresses other possible scenarios and locations that are unique to the Company, and it provides a cost comparison example.
