Abstract :
Operational availability of a complex system with two subsystems is discussed. The failure and repair times of units for both subsystems follow exponential and general distributions, respectively. ´Inclusion of supplementary variable´ technique and Laplace transforms have been used to obtain transient-state probabilities. Some numerical results highlighting the effect of various failures on long-run availability of the system have been computed. Derivations are in a separately available Supplement.
