Abstract :
A newly proposed oscillation energy analysis method is used to study the damping of a generator with sixth-order model. The oscillation energy dissipations of the field winding and three damper windings are derived, and the energy dissipation coefficients of the windings are defined based on the eigenvector. In the single-machine system, the energy dissipation coefficient of the generator is equal to the damping torque coefficient. The energy dissipation coefficient of a winding can be used to quantitatively evaluate its damping. The method offers a tool for the study of the damping of an individual component in the generator and its features. In simulation cases, the quantitative damping of four windings of a generator is revealed, and the influence of parameters on the damping of different windings is also studied.
