Abstract
Harmonics are referred as viruses in electrical distribution network. HT end users in Power Distribution System generally involves load having nonlinear characteristics. Most of harmonics are introduced in power distribution system due to load characteristics. Being viruses, harmonics causes pollution in power system, therefore same has to limit to the safe value. This paper presents harmonics measurement at HT end users in power distribution system and verification and comparison with the harmonics limits recommended by IEEE 519-1992. The experimental results shows that safe harmonics limits recommended by IEEE 519-1992 needs to consider the effect of load power factor in fixing the safe harmonic limits.
