Abstract :
New virtual technology has much to offer broadcast television. Constraints of materials, budgets, and studio space need no longer limit scenic and lighting design. The creative options offered by computer graphics are endless. This new technology frees us from the physical boundaries of reality. It lets designers create scenes previously too difficult, dangerous, or expensive. At first glance it may seem like a paradise. Of course, there are other constraints. For example, there is no turnkey setup available for either hardware or software. In most cases you will use: 1) two if not three operating systems; 2) several different computers; 3) any and all software you can get your hands on; and 4) lots and lots of time and energy
