Abstract
Discusses the impact of computers on production effectiveness, particular attention being given to the steel industry. Programming concepts available for implementing steel-mill automation are discussed and the problems of collecting massive amounts of data are outlined. The designer/computer interaction is examined concluding that human decision is still crucial.
