Obituary

MR. A. A. KNUDSON, electrical engineer, of New York, died of heart failure on August 13, 1909, at Meadville, Pa., where he had gone early in August to investigate electrolytic conditions in the water mains. Mr. Knudson was born in Southport, Conn, on December 15, 1846. In 1872 he entered the service of the Western Union Telegraph Company, in the construction department. Three years later he became an inspector for the Gold and Stock Telegraph Company. He was the inventor of the Knudson Ticker, which he patented in 1873, and he subsequently invented six other tickers. In 1880 he introduced the Knudson mechanical telephone system. Later he engaged in consultation work. With the development of the electrical science he enlarged the scope of his work, and in recent years made a specialty of electrolysis. He was elected an Associate of the Institute on December 6, 1887, and was transferred to the grade of Member on January 3, 1888. The funeral took place from his home in Brooklyn on August 18. His widow and a brother survive him.
