  • Abstract
Evaluating wind farm capacity credit is an important task in planning of power systems containing wind power. Utilization of energy storage devices can be used to smooth the power output curve of wind farms. The different configurations and control strategies of storage devices have different impacts on the power output curve and will significantly affect the capacity credit of wind farms. Based on the definition of wind farm capacity credit and the impacts of storage devices on the output power of wind farm, an evaluation model for wind farm capacity credit considering effect of storage device is presented, and an evaluating algorithm using the bisection method is developed for different storage strategies. The proposed model and algorithm were applied to the RBTS (Roy Billinton Test System) with addition of a wind farm to analyze the wind farm capacity credit. The study results show that the wind farm capacity credit can be improved by installing storage devices. The smoother the output power is, the higher the capacity credit. The study results also show the calculation of capacity credit closely depends on the selection of reliability index.
