Abstract :
A self-consistent calculation of the amplified spontaneous emission spectrum and the sidemode suppression ratio is presented, for the first time, for partly gain-coupled distributed feedback (DFB) lasers with periodically etched quantum wells (QWs). It is shown that the sidemode suppression increases with an increase in the number of etched QWs, due to the gain coupling which is a function of carrier density
