Abstract :
The authors report the first realisation of a 0 dB insertion loss, 19 GHz bandwidth pulse generator module operating at 1.5 μm, and based on the integration of multiquantum-well InGaAsP electroabsorption modulators connected in tandem, with a semiconductor optical amplifier (SOA). An 80 mA current in the amplifier section ensures full transparency in the `ON´ state. The module, tested at 10 Gbit/s, was assembled using specially designed aspherically lensed pigtails, and high-accuracy YAG laser welding
