Abstract
This work presents modeling, analysis, and control of a wind turbine with direct drive permanent magnet synchronous generator (PMSG) connected to the grid. A complete mathematical model is built to study the stability of the wind turbine with direct drive PMSG when suffered with wind velocity disturbances and effectively to design controller parameters. The specialized space vector pulse width modulation (SVPWM) with current predictive control strategy is adopted to control the three-phase voltage source converter (VSC) in order to minimize the system delay and improve the current response so that the grid-side current harmonics can be sharply reduced. Active and reactive current are controlled respectively in d-q rotating coordinate system to achieve unity power factor. The proposed switching algorithm can control the converter with wide input variations. The stability of the system after suffering disturbances in wind velocity is evaluated based on simulation results in the MATLAB environment in order to validate the system operation.
