Abstract
This paper presents a diagnosis methodology for power system disturbances, in real time, based on alarms and sequences of events (SOE). The Disturbance Diagnosis System for Real Time Operation was created to assist the operator to understand causes of disturbances, through actuated equipment protections. Its development was based on actions performed by operators during disturbances and it is, therefore, classified as a knowledge-based system. The experts\´ knowledge was captured and stored in a database of rules such as "if ... then ... else". The goal is to provide better response in terms of safety and speed, which will allow operators to make more accurate decisions during the equipment restoring task due to disturbances in the power system.
