Abstract :
With the increasing penetration of distributed generation (DG), a methodology that is able to recognize its contribution at the transmission level becomes crucial. However, tailored for distribution network operators (DNOs), the existing P2/6 approach fails to consider the characteristics of the distribution networks, DG penetration levels and locations. Consequently, its suggested DG contribution values tend to be oversimplified and too optimistic. In this paper, a Monte Carlo simulation based approach to evaluate DG contribution has been presented. Compared with the original P2/6, the new approach for the first time incorporates a series of potential influencing factors, such as network reliability, system capacity constraint, DG penetration level and DG location, into DG contribution evaluation, making the results valuable for transmission-level analysis. In addition, through a series of tests on an IEEE 30-bus system, it has been clearly shown that these previously ignored factors could make a huge difference to the final results.
