Abstract :
Inconsistent use of the transverse electric (TE) and transverse magnetic (TM) polarization notation in two articles on the scattering of a plane wave from a strip grating (see K. Uchida et al., ibid., vol.AP-35, p.46-52, Jan., 1987, and J.H. Richmond, ibid., vol.AP-28, p.883-7, Nov. 1980) is discussed. It is proposed that only the more standard notations be used to refer to the different polarization cases
