Abstract :
A high-picture-quality digital VCR was experimentally developed, using the triple Reed-Solomon product code, a novel block-coding technique with extensive lower frequency level suppression and a DCT (discrete cosine transform)-based bit-rate reduction system. It is suggested that this experimental system can reproduce HDTV (high-definition television) signal records by simulation, and a system to prevent picture quality deterioration by duplication is proposed
