Abstract
A stochastic method is proposed that is aimed at designing a desired asymmetric beam pattern by a fully optimized linear array. The method acts on both the positions and the weight coefficients of the array elements. The synthesized array configurations produce beam patterns that are similar to the desired ones and that keep their asymmetric profiles regardless of steering direction. The results obtained show the high flexibility of the proposed approach.
