Abstract :
This paper presents that the current ripple may increase the eddy current loss of axial-flux permanent magnet motor (AFPM). In the simulation of this paper, the ideal sine current and PWM ripple current are applied to the windings of AFPM separately, and the eddy current losses are obtained by finite element analysis (FEA) and analytic formulas. The effect of the current ripple on the eddy current losses of AFPM can be shown by comparing of the calculation results. Further, the measured efficiency map of manufactured AFPM proved this speculation.
