Abstract :
A description is given of the maintenance processor whose function it is to supervise the proper operation of its host computer to improve reliability and reduce down time. A discussion is presented of concurrent monitoring of operation, fault diagnosis and recovery, retrying failed instructions, reconfiguring multiprocessor systems, and correcting memory errors.
