Abstract
A discussion is presented of circular and straight accelerators. techniques for focusing and accelerating the beams are considered, along with the problems inherent in linear colliders. Finally, the important parameter for a particle accelerator, rate of acceleration, and the limitations imposed by this parameter in terms of equipment and energy needs are discussed.
