Abstract :
When IEEE Potentials published its first issue in the winter of 1982, IEEE Regional Activities Board (RAB, which would become Member and Geographic Activities) Student Activities Committee (SAC) Chair Charles Alexander was a driving force behind the creation of the magazine. Alexander, who earned a B.S.E.E from Ohio Northern University in 1965, an M.S.E.E. from Ohio University in 1967, and a Ph.D. in electrical engineering from Ohio University in 1971, would go on to serve as IEEE president in 1997. He is currently a professor of electrical and computer engineering at Cleveland State University in Ohio.
