Abstract :
The authors have developed an LSI chip set for the decoder of the closed caption system to be installed in all TV sets with 13-inch or larger screens in the US, beginning in July 1993. The basic policies of the system development were as follows: the system must provide stabilized receiving operations; the system should offer low-cost operation; and, the system must be easily adaptable to different types of TV receivers. A closed caption decoder system consisting of three chips, front end, on screen display, and decoder, has been found to ensure reliable reception at low cost
