Abstract :
The authors discuss the diverse continuing education programs that are being made available to engineers in the USA. Courses are being offered by universities, professional societies, commercial education firms, and industry itself. Each group has a slightly different approach and purpose. Universities excel at live lecturing, while corporate in-house programs offer flexible course schedules and take-home materials. Sometimes an engineer needs a semester´s sabbatical, and at other times a three-hour teleconference fills the need.
