Viewers will have a host of new options with the advent of new frequency allocations. The likely impact on the traditional broadcaster is discussed in this first part of a two-part series. Among the issues considered are: improving both the transmitted and received image; stereophonic sound; low-power TV; and a multichannel multipoint distribution service.
