Abstract :
Arc fault detection is desperately required in Solid State Power Controllers (SSPC) in addition to their fundamental functions since arcs are provoking growing harm and threat to aircraft safety. This paper investigates the function of arc fault detection for DC SSPC and proposes a method in time-frequency domain to effectively detect DC arcs. Basic knowledge of DC arcs and a commonly used mathematical model are illustrated. Experiment results show that DC arcs can be effectively detected with the proposed method and some mis-operations can also be avoided.
