Abstract
New developments during 1984 were reported in a number of areas. Advances in cardiac imaging occurred in computed topography, ultrasound, and nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR). Pacemakers and heart-assist systems also progressed. A spate of other equipment-including implantable programmable pumps to meter insulin to diabetics and external closed-loop drug infusors for critical care-inched toward application. Regulatory issues are also discussed.
