Abstract
A development concept, an outline of mechanism and control system, and applications of a dynamic drum (DD) tracking system enabling noise-free variable speed playback for consumer VCRs are discussed. The DD system does not simply move the heads, but controls the entire drum to comprise a tracking method completely different from earlier systems. The lower drum is divided into tape sliding and lead sections, and the construction enable the relative inclination of the lead and head trace. During variable speed playback, so as to align the head trace with the recorded track, the overall drum inclination is precisely controlled
