Abstract :
We propose a new technique of a symbol timing recovery (STR) using the segment sync data for the digital high definition TV (HDTV) Grand Alliance (GA) vestigial side band (VSB) system. An algorithm and a hardware structure for the proposed new technique provide very low complexity and fairly good performance. The proposed data segment sync detection and STR both work reliably at a signal to noise ratio (SNR) of 0 dB. The proposed STR has a tracking range for symbol frequency offset of ±100 ppm
