  • Abstract
The trend to modernize the power and energy industry is nothing new. Over the past several years, utility companies have invested heavily in advanced technology such as modern substation automation equipment, advanced metering infrastructure, and intelligent monitoring devices. These technologies are no doubt a step in the right direction. They have the potential-when paired with advanced software technologies-to provide priceless insights, vital cost reductions, and improved reliability.
