Those learning or involved in engineering design are probably familiar with the concept of tradeoffs: within a given framework, optimizing for one parameter will inevitably lead to declines in others. This has been especially true for the so-called green technologies, and an online search for any green technology keyword followed by “tradeoff” will likely generate a long list of results questioning its effectiveness.
