Abstract :
In this paper, the snubbers for bifilar-wound motors are investigated and a novel LCD snubber is proposed. The bifilar connection offers the benefit of high fault tolerant ability and requiring only low side power device which simplifies the design of inverter. However, high voltage is produced by the leakage between the two bifilar coils, causing the voltage press and the switching loss of the power switches to increase. Thus a snubber is necessary for a bifilar-wound motor. The proposed LCD snubber for bifilar-wound motor is analyzed and the design method is also given in details.
