What price safety? Air travelers may be unaware that unless the U.S. Congress acts, increasing the margins of safety may be unaffordable as airlines compete for market share

The various avenues by which improvement in the safety of the US air transportation system may be achieved are briefly examined. The effect of higher fares, congressional action, and new technology are noted.
