Abstract
The problems confronting the US Department of Energy are briefly examined. Efforts are being launched to address deficiencies in its nuclear weapons and civilian energy programs. The policies and decisions being made will have considerable impact in a number of areas, including national security, the atmosphere and environment, competitiveness, and the fuels that will be used to drive the nation´s economy
