Abstract :
The accelerator complex FAIR consists out of two superconducting synchrotrons, several storage rings and beam lines. Therefore there are many injection and extraction areas where septum magnets are necessary. Some of them have to be designed under crucial conditions, which may be difficult to accomplish with a conventional C-shape iron septum magnet. An alternative concept of a truncated, iron-yoked cosine theta magnet is proposed in this paper. Design studies for the FAIR septum magnets are presented as well.
