Abstract
The paper describes the principles on which the various systems of electrotechnical units (C.G.S., M.K.S., both unrationalized and rationalized) are based. A suggested teaching sequence using M.K.S. rationalized units is outlined, in which the metre, second, ampere and volt are used in the elementary stages to obtain the dimensions and units of other electrical quantities. Analogies between the conduction circuit and field on the one hand, and electric and magnetic circuits and fields on the other, are considered helpful, since the conduction case rests on familiar ideas of current and voltage and permits of experimental illustration by field plotting.
