Abstract :
Some calibration and focusing techniques for antenna arrays assume availability of point sources that radiate spherical wave fronts in free space. In practice, point sources and free-space propagation can only be approximated. Descriptions are given of technique and a decision criterion that provide a means for testing the radiation or reflection from a source to see if it acts sufficiently like a point source to permit accurate array focusing. The physical meaning of this procedure is described, and the proposed approach is demonstrated by simulation examples
