The first stage of the electrification of the Estrada de Ferro Santos a Jundiai (late São Paulo Railway)

The paper gives a short history of railway development in Brazil and describes the electrification at 3 000 volts d.c. of 118 single-track miles of main lines and sidings between Jundiai and Mooca in the State of São Paulo. Particulars are given of the equipment provided which comprised locomotives, multiple-unit trains, substations, track cabins and overhead lines. Some of the interesting details of the installation work and of experience gained under operating conditions are included.
