Abstract :
Optimal location of base station is an important factor which can conserve the energy in a Wireless Sensor Network (WSN). Centroid of distributed nodes comes out to be optimal position for placing base station in a sensor network when all nodes suffer free space loss from the base station. Optimal position for a base station when all nodes suffer only multipath loss is geometric median-4. When some of the nodes suffer free space loss and other nodes suffer multi-path loss, then providing the optimal base-station location is a NP-hard problem. In our previous work, we have given fixed weights, to provide sub-optimal position for different size of topological areas and number of nodes in a WSN. In this paper, we try to analyze the influence of weighting factors for weighted centroid algorithm in obtaining optimal base station position.
