Abstract
High Peak-to-Average Power Ratio (PAPR) is a major drawback of multicarrier transmission systems such as OFDM. Among various techniques proposed for PAPR reduction, SeLective Mapping (SLM) is a stochastic approach with the potential to achieve maximum PAPR reduction via phase optimization. In this paper, a measurable criterion for determining suitable phase sequences for near optimum SLM is derived, following which a large number candidates in the form of MPSK sequences are formulated to achieve near optimum SLM performance. A low cost search algorithm for the transmitter is also investigated.
