Abstract :
The authors calculate the probability density function of the Q factor for optically amplified transmission IM-DD systems, in the presence of a randomicity given by the polarisation mode dispersion. Theoretical and experimental results obtained in a soliton field trial 500 km long at 40 Gbit/s show a satisfactory agreement
