  • Abstract
The paper summarizes the types of traction control-equipment in use on rolling stock serving the London Suburban Area. Descriptions are given of the main features of the equipment used by the Southern and London Midland Regions of the Railway Executive and by the London Transport Executive. Many different types of equipment are in use and particular attention is given to the points of difference. The majority of equipments employ a series-parallel circuit for two motors with bridge transition, earlier equipments being mainly fitted with electromagnetic control-gear whilst in later equipments electropneumatic control has been more extensively used. Particulars of the latest electro-pneumatic camshaft control and of the metadyne equipments of London Transport are given in some detail.
