Abstract :
For a completely polarised wave, a simple method is proposed for obtaining the characteristic polarisation states, in the form of the Stokes vector, showing that the co-polarisation (CO-POL) nulls are the most fundamental characteristic polarisation states, and that the other states can easily be obtained from the expressions of the CO-POL nulls
