Abstract
Ultrafast all-optical switching in a nonlinear Sagnac interferometer using picosecond pulses from a laser diode is reported. The key technologies are a highly stable fibre Sagnac interferometer with a long interaction length of 1600 m, and high-intensity 14 ps control pulses provided by a gain switched DFB-LD coupled with an erbium-doped fibre amplifier.
