  • Abstract
Kiribati consists of a large number of islands in the central Pacific. They are spread out over an area which is roughly equal to that of the USA. The islands are extremely sparsely populated and poor which makes communication even more difficult. The authors describe a range of proposals designed to improve Kiribati´s communications. A earth station is proposed for Kiritimati, one of the main islands, which will operate with a demand-assigned multiple-access scheme through an Intelsat satellite. This will allow communication to anywhere in the world
