  • Abstract
The paper briefly discusses the developments and technology in underground cables. XLPE cables, fluid filled cables and installation methods are outlined. The use of intelligent cables should become commonplace, with information on temperature, mechanical, and electrical integrity being transmitted to intelligent transducers via optical fibers incorporated into the cable construction
