Abstract
Cellular mobile radio communication systems are evolving towards the provision of high-capacity, high-quality voice and data services inside confined environments such as buildings. The systems deployed will provide capacity and coverage over small geographical areas such as an office floor, Such systems are referred to as being `picocellular´ in the context of cellular mobile telephony. This paper provides an overview of the channel characteristics, planning and deployment of picocellular systems, which in general differ from those of macro- and microcellular systems
