Abstract
The effects of small perturbations in the widths and relative permittivity of the layers which form the multilayer waveguide of quantum cascade lasers are investigated. A full complex analysis which takes into account surface-plasmon-mode effects is undertaken. On the basis of the analysis, an optical-waveguide structure with improved modal discrimination is proposed
