Abstract :
A travelling wave model of a semiconductor laser amplifier is used to derive an expression for the ratio of the amplitude and phase modulation index using variations in the device bias current. The expression includes light propagation parameters which cause a small increase above existing ratios adopted from laser diode investigations.
