Abstract
The author discusses what has been accomplished in the graphics standards area in the last decade and what lies in store in the decade ahead. He discusses issues that affect the development, implementation, and end users of graphics and data exchange standards in general. They concern scope, target, size and complexity, technology, understanding of interchange formats, automation, and the nature of the end users.<>
